Musical Monsters & Budding Bookworms is part early childhood music education and part bookstore. They carry new and used books for budding bookworms of all ages: graphic novels, board books, picture books, middle readers, & young adults!
Their music classes encourage creativity, develop motor skills, and improve social interactions through group activities and games. Your child will have a blast while learning and growing through the power of music.
The Strategy
MMBB required a comprehensive solution on a tight timeline. We prioritized the development of the online presence before moving on to the bookstore layout, custom shelving, and overall design. From the outset, the client expressed a clear vision for hand-drawn illustrations, which guided our creative approach.

We chose to create engaging, imaginative monsters to captivate our audience. The monsters were initially hand-sketched, then brought into Photoshop for coloring and animation. Each animation underwent multiple iterations to refine and perfect the final design.
As a kid, I recall hearing that Jim Henson emphasized sympathetic/secondary motion to add character to his puppets. We utilized those techniques to create a unique monster for each category, ranging from toddler to rockstar, ensuring a diverse and engaging representation across all age groups.
After finalizing the monster designs, we turned our attention to developing the brand assets for use across the website, advertising materials, and in-store displays.
We aimed to design a website that would engage both parents and children. To achieve this, we focused on maintaining a simple, user-friendly structure and minimalist graphics.
Social Media
To enhance engagement, we designed custom templates for use across social media platforms.
